Sounds and pictures (Spotify and Pinterest)

Over the past week or so, I have been adding to a playlist on Spotify, slowly building an aural mood board (kind of). This playlist is actually the third incarnation of such a beast, the first one having been made months ago, called 'Sad Country Clown'. There is a lot less Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash in this selection than the original.

I've tried to order the songs to mimic some sort of energetic flow, with some spikes and builds, up and down - my own experience of sleeplessness. You can even hear a little taste of Nat Pavlovic's work in there on her dreamy track 'Braver' with her band Dianas.

Have a listen (in order if you like). You can even follow the playlist and you'll see how it evolves over the development of the work. I mean it's great listening if nothing else.

There is also a Pinterest board set up for the development of the work with some visual stimulus and ambiguous references, if you're into that kind of thing. Click here or on the image if you want to have a look, and feel free to follow that too to get an inside look into the creative inspirations behind the work.

I'm going to finish this post by including a piece of writing. I love it.

VERSION 1 Richard is standing in line at the food co-op at the top of his street holding an orange, two granola bars, a kombucha, and a bottle of Goldenseal. When Richard reaches the front of the line, the grocer greets him smiling and asks him if he has a rewards card with them. "No," says Richard. "Would you like one?" asks the grocer. "No," says Richard. The grocer begins scanning the items. "Are you sure you don't want to sign up for one? They're free... plus you get 10% off of your purchase for every $500 you spend here," he says, scanning. "No thanks," says Richard, "and I don't need a bag." Richard carries his things to his car then sets them on the passenger seat. He opens one of the granola bars then puts the kombucha in a cup holder. He takes a bite of the granola bar, opens the kombucha, takes a sip. Starts driving. VERSION 2 Richard is standing in line at the food co-op at the top of his street holding an orange, two granola bars, a kombucha, and a bottle of Goldenseal. When Richard reaches the register the grocer greets him smiling and asks Richard if he has a rewards card with them. "No," says Richard. "Would you like one?" asks the cashier. "No," says Richard. The cashier begins scanning the items. "Are you sure you don't want to sign up for one? They're free... plus you get 10% off of your purchase for every $500 you spend here," he says, scanning. "Actually," says Richard, immediately feeling committed to the act of getting a rewards card via having said "actually" while realizing he still doesn't want a rewards card. "Ah, nevermind. I don't want one... And I don't need a bag, thank you." Richard carries his things to his car then sets them on the passenger seat. He opens one of the granola bars then puts the kombucha in a cup holder. He takes a bite of the granola bar, opens the kombucha, takes a sip. Starts driving. "Actually," says Richard, immediately feeling committed to the act of getting a rewards card via having said "actually" while realizing he still doesn't want a rewards card. "Yeah, sure, why not?" Richard grins sheepishly as the grocer asks for his name and phone number, then tells the grocer his name and phone number while the grocer types things into the register then hands Richard a card. "Thanks," says Richard. Richard carries his things to his car and sets them on the passenger seat. He opens one of the granola bars then puts the kombucha in a cup holder. He takes a bite of the granola bar, opens the kombucha, takes a sip. Starts driving.
